Our Licensed Architect Members

We are 1495 strong -- the largest amount ever for the AIA Philadelphia chapter. Since 2012 our membership has consistently grown and the Philadelphia region's architectural community is one of the largest in the United States. Our membership works locally and globally with project types covering every typology and continent. As one of the 3rd oldest AIA Chapters, founded by Thomas U. Walter...AIA Philadelphia legacy continues to grow and to thrive.

Our Associate AIA Members

AIA Philadelphia's Associate members have tripled in size over the past 10 years and is ranked 3rd in the country in Associate Member growth. Associate members are not always emerging professionals (10 years or less in the profession), we have tremendous Associate members that are working in and outside of the architecture profession -- using the knowledge and expertise of their architectural education in various ways. The majority of our Associate Members are emerging professionals and several years ago, our Associate AIA members and our Young Architects members formed PEA (Philadelphia Emerging Architects) Committee to support the growth and network of our emerging professionals. Our growth in Associate Members is primarily because of the robust programming created by our team of PEA leaders.

Our Local Architecture Firms

Philadelphia's architecture firms in and around the City continue to evolve. Over the past 10 years we have seen more national firms move to Philadelphia to set up offices here, as well as seeing some firms merge. Our community has more AIA architects working than ever before, but the number of firms is decreasing slightly. Given that 23% of our individual members are over the age of 65 and 80% of our Architecture Firms have 5 or less licensed architects, we will likely see a continued reduction in the number of firms due to mergers or retirement, in the case of sole proprietors.

Our Allied Member Firms

AIA Philadelphia is extremely lucky to have such a robust and engaged group of companies and individuals who care about the architecture industry and want to connect with our members through our Allied Member Firm program. Allied members are a diverse group of service providers, product manufacturers, contractors, sub-contractors, allied organizations -- all of whom are experts and thought leaders that partner with architects to create successful projects. We rely on our Allied members for continuing education opportunities, joint advocacy efforts, and different perspectives to help our members solve some of our communities most pressing problems. Our Allied Members make the investment in AIA to advance their business goals, as well as the business goals of Architects and Architecture firms.
