A Celebration of International Women’s Day: Gratitude for WIA and Brickworks Design Studio

AIA Philadelphia’s Women in Architecture (WIA) Committee gathered in celebration of International Women’s Day this March, joining longtime partners at Brickworks Design Studio for an evening rooted in creativity and community. At Brickworks, the event invited attendees to connect and participate in a still life painting session. It was an opportunity to slow down and create together.

International Women’s Day, recognized globally during Women’s History Month, honors the cultural, historical, and political achievements of women while encouraging continued action toward gender equity. This year’s celebration embodied that spirit, offering a moment not only to gather, but to reflect on the collective progress and shared responsibility within the architecture and design community.

The evening also marked a significant milestone for WIA leadership. Co-Chairs Sarah Curry and Elisa Medina-Jaudes hosted their final major event in their roles, closing out a chapter defined by dedication, thoughtful programming, and a deep commitment to fostering growth for women within the profession. Their leadership has left a lasting impact on the committee and its members, and AIA Philadelphia extends its sincere gratitude for their time, energy, and vision.

As WIA looks ahead, we are excited to welcome incoming Co-Chairs Rachel Sasson and Phoebe Webster. Their leadership signals a new chapter for the committee, and we look forward to supporting their ideas and continued growth of this community. Learn more about Rachel and Phoebe here.

A special thank you goes to Brickworks Design Studio for their ongoing partnership and generous support of the WIA Committee. Their commitment to providing space for connection and collaboration continues to make events like this possible.

Together, the evening served as both a celebration and a transition, honoring the work that has been done, and looking forward to continuing to advance the profession for women.
