Welcome the new Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee Co-Chair, Abel Peter! The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) committee seeks to create awareness and promote efforts that will set a standard for an equitable, diverse, and inclusive profession.
About Abel Peter
Abel Peter is an Architectural Associate at Lenhardt Rodgers Architecture + Interiors. He received his Bachelor of Architecture from Rizvi College of Architecture, Mumbai and a Master of Science in Architecture from Virginia Tech. Abel's work reflects a strong interest in adaptive reuse and contextual design, with project experience in cities such as Danville, Virginia Beach, and Norfolk.
Prior to moving to the United States, Abel was involved in social mass housing and slum redevelopment projects in Mumbai, India, where he gained firsthand insight into the complexities of high-density living, informal settlements, and community-driven design solutions. These experiences continue to inform his approach to architecture as both a technical and social practice.
Abel is passionate about creating meaningful, place-based architecture that responds to cultural context while embracing sustainability. He is particularly interested in the reuse of existing structures as a way to preserve urban memory and reduce environmental impact. Through his work, he aims to contribute to more equitable communities, celebrate cultural identity, and advance thoughtful, sustainable design.
