Equity + Justice |
AIA Philadelphia proudly honors National Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrating the rich contributions of Hispanic and Latino architects and designers within our community. As a key pillar of our organization, Equity and Justice guides our commitment to amplifying diverse voices and fostering inclusive practices in architecture. This month, we reflect on the cultural heritage, innovative perspectives, and significant impact that Hispanic professionals bring to the built environment, recognizing the importance of representation in shaping a more equitable future for all.
Elsa G. De Leon, new Co-Chair to the EDI Committee
" Latinx architects and designers are leading the way in innovative design and most important advocating for the profession. I see more community-based design strategies driving city policies and new projects. During the last cycle of tremendous immigration, the city became more diverse, opening new doors, and allowing the city to become a place of exploration and opportunities. We are bringing a cultural representation of rich heritage blending it with architectural elements of our culture and the modern techniques. As a minority our commitment with the community is important, and we shall advocate for the underrepresented and continue to raise our voices. I hope to see more Latinx in leadership roles and advocating for more diversity and inclusion. "
