Congratulations to Ballinger on winning a Merit Award + Citation for Sustainability for their Singer Hall project.

The 159,000 SF Singer Hall is an interdisciplinary science facility for Biology, Engineering and Psychology located on Swarthmore College’s renowned arboretum campus. The College provides an exceptional liberal arts education and envisioned an interdisciplinary environment for Singer Hall that would broadly engage the entire institution.

Based on its core Quaker values, the College anticipated a project that would enrich the overall community and be respectful of the campus context while establishing a unique contemporary sense of place in context of exemplary environmental stewardship.

The program includes teaching/research laboratories, classrooms, seminar rooms, offices and specialty program spaces, such as a high bay for Engineering, a child development clinic for Psychology and a special introductory lab and greenhouse for Biology. Collaborative spaces intended as overall institution engagement environments include a main commons, open study, lounge and group study spaces.
