The Lighting Practice is thrilled to announce that Ryan Conover, EDAC, Assoc. IALD, has been named one of Healthcare Design's 2022 Rising Stars. This award celebrates the outstanding achievements of professionals who have worked in healthcare design for fewer than 10 years. Ryan has demonstrated a commitment to the healthcare design industry and has made meaningful contributions that establish him as a leader.
“I'm honored and humbled to be recognized along with other professionals in the industry and receiving this award has allowed me to reflect on my career,” says Ryan Conover, “I'm grateful for all the clients, colleagues, and friends that have supported me along the way.”
Ryan's passion for lighting and human well-being merged when he achieved his Evidence-Based Design Accreditation and Certification (EDAC) and has taken on the role of evidence-based design coordinator at The Lighting Practice. In this role as Associate, he focuses on Light + Health, spearheading the firm's healthcare design initiatives and standards. He is committed to supporting clients and the design community through comprehensive reviews of data and continued interaction with researchers of human-centric lighting.
Ryan has designed interior, exterior, and circadian lighting systems for a variety of healthcare clients, including Inspira Health, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Nemours Children's Health, Inova Health System, and RWJ Barnabas Health. In recent years, he has directed his lighting design expertise towards children-focused hospitals and healthcare facilities. Ryan understands that these environments can be intimidating for children. He uses light to create a physiologically safe and welcoming environments for young patients and their families. Fixture selection, placement, color temperature, and lighting controls can improve perception of healthcare environments whether it is creating a calm space for reflection, or a fun space filled with positive distraction. His desire to create comforting and memorable experiences for children, families, and staff, continues to inspire Ryan's work in healthcare design.
Ryan also teaches as an adjunct instructor with Kent State University, education both upcoming graduates and existing A/E/C professionals on improving healthcare facilities through their work, while helping them discover and pursue a passion for healthcare and lighting design.
“The next generation of professionals are pushing boundaries and challenging traditional design techniques,” explains Ryan, “new technologies, processes and diverse personal and professional experiences, are just a few ways we are transforming healthcare design.”
Ryan is a Rising Star and healthcare design industry leader. His passion for enhancing human health through lighting design and his commitment to evidence-based design have made him an influential contributor to the industry and a respected member of The Lighting Practice's team.
