THE LIGHTING PRACTICE'S DAVID SEOK EARNS PRESTIGIOUS CLD CERTIFICATION
As a leader in lighting design, The Lighting Practice works with some of the brightest and most proficient designers in the country. Providing cutting-edge lighting design solutions is a testament to the team's commitment to continued learning and understanding our clients' needs.
Senior Lighting Designer David Seok, CLD, IALD, has earned the Certified Lighting Designer (CLD) designation, the first international, evidence-based certification in architectural lighting design. David is among the first lighting designers in the world to earn this international certification, which demonstrates that he has a proven track record of excellence and has successfully validated his skill to a rigorous assessment process that define high standards of professional practice.
The certification process, governed by the Certified Lighting Design Commission, is designed to assess ability to operate as a lead architectural lighting designer in a professional and proficient manner by considering a person's imaginative, technical, and professional responsibility skills.
“David has achieved a global benchmark of performance and demonstrated that he has a proven track record of meeting high standards of professional practice in lighting design,” says Emad Hasan, Principal of TLP's New York office. “With experienced designers like David achieving a CLD certification, it allows our clients to have faith that our team is being led by a passionate design team that have met the rigorous requirements of becoming a Certified Lighting Designer”.
David Seok is a senior lighting designer based in The Lighting Practice's New York office. His project experience spans multiple sectors including academic, corporate, retail, hospitality, and entertainment environments. Since joining the firm in 2014, David has brought an element of fun, curiosity, and innovation to the team and his project work. Recognized as a member of Light Collective's 40under40 class of 2021 and a current board member of IALD NYC Chapter, David is an engaged member of the lighting community who is committed to expanding his peers and clients understanding of light and its impact on the built environment.
“As a relatively young industry, there is still confusion about what a 'lighting designer' does, so it is important to distinguish the work that we do as architectural lighting designers and to receive the certification upon review by my peers,” says David Seok. He continues, “As the CLD continues to grow and gain recognition throughout the construction and design industry, I hope that it is able to provide our clients with the confidence that they are working with a professional that truly understands architectural lighting”.
The Lighting Practice is proud of David for achieving his CLD certification, proving his dedication to growing his knowledge in lighting design.
