About Timothy Kerner, AIA

Through his architectural career, Timothy Kerner, AIA has developed an understanding of the complexities of historic and new structures and the connections to the built and natural surroundings. He has designed homes throughout the Philadelphia region and in Brazil. He has also worked on significant projects for the National Gallery of Art, Curtis Institute of Music, and Glen Echo National Park. Since 2001, he has directed Terra Studio Architecture with a focus on residential community design.

Dedicated to improving the urban environment, Tim has led preservation and development review efforts for Center City neighborhood associations and chaired the Mayor’s Transition Team for Planning and Development. In recognition of his efforts, he was appointed to serve on the Licenses & Inspection Review Board and is a member of the AIA Philadelphia Board of Directors.

Tim has degrees in Design of the Environment, Architecture, and City Planning from the University of Pennsylvania and teaches at the Tyler School of Art and Architecture. His academic research focuses on the relations between architecture, history, and urban form. He is a founding member of Context magazine’s editorial board and is a contributing writer for Plan Philly and Hidden City.
