TLP's Ryan Conover Named Among 40 Top Lighting Designers

The Lighting Practice (TLP) is thrilled to announce that Associate Ryan Conover has been recognized in the 2022 Class of 40under40, an international program that identifies the most talented and promising individuals working in the lighting design industry.

Light Collective's 40under40 awards program recognizes lighting designers who are “raising the bar on the creativity and quality of projects across the world.” For their outstanding contributions to the field, the Class of 40under40 are considered representatives of a new generation in the 21st century.

Ryan Conover joined The Lighting Practice in 2011, and in 2021, he took on a formal leadership role at TLP by being promoted to Associate. As Associate, Ryan is committed to supporting clients and the design community with comprehensive reviews of data and interaction with researchers of human-centric lighting. Continuing his own research of lighting design strategies and sharing that knowledge with his lighting design peers will improve the future of design with more evidence-based strategies.

“I choose light because of its positive influence on human health and well-being,” Ryan said, “there is never one answer with lighting and decisions made can dramatically impact the kind of space created.”

Ryan's passion for lighting and human well-being merged when he became Evidence-Based Design Accredited and Certificated (EDAC). He believes it is important to develop lighting design solutions that meet energy/safety codes, balance aesthetics and support human health. Additionally, he is an adjunct instructor with Kent State University, where he educates upcoming graduates and existing A/E/C professionals on improving healthcare facilities, while helping them discover a passion for healthcare and lighting design.

“Ryan cares deeply about light and health, and has pursued Evidence-Based Design Accreditation and Certification to support our clients in this area and educate his peers”, says TLP President Helen Diemer, “He is an exceptional designer and leader in our firm, whose focus on continuous improvement is something that sets him apart from many other lighting designers”.

To be eligible for consideration in the 40under40 Class, nominees must work with the application of lighting in architecture and be under the age of 40. A selection panel – which includes senior lighting professionals, association representatives, educators, and curatorial board members – assesses all nominees' architectural lighting design achievements until they've selected forty members for the Class.
