Nick Jabs is an architect, landscape architect, and educator located in Philadelphia with experience working throughout the country. He is currently a Senior Associate at PORT, a public realm-focused landscape architecture and urban design practice, and teaches design studios at the University of Pennsylvania. His career has principally been focused on the research, conceptualization, design, and implementation of public realm projects across a wide range scales and contexts.

At PORT he has worked on and managed regionally significant large park projects in western Pennsylvania, eastern Tennessee, northwest Arkansas, and central Idaho. He has also managed several projects in Philadelphia including a vision plan and phase 1 documentation of streetscape improvements in Northern Liberties, concept planning for West Fairmount Park and the surrounding neighborhoods, and the design of a new nature-based playground in Cobbs Creek Park for one of the most underserved communities in the city. As a lecturer at PENN and the University of Delaware, he has co-taught core and elective design studios centered around urban ecological and public space considerations through the lens of critical research, narrative development, and speculative design propositions.

These endeavors, taken together with additional experiences as a Fellow with the Landscape Architecture Foundation and researcher with The McHarg Center, have summarized why Nick is deserving of this award.
