What can we learn about life from death?
When: Thursday, September 15 | 5:30 – 7:00pm
Where: Center for Architecture and Design, 1218 Arch Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107
Virtual: Microsoft Meetup Meeting ID: 288 414 261 847 Passcode: mmW5Ab
Sponsor: Taheri Architecture, Inc.
Nineteen is an uplifting book of profound and inspiring reflections based on the true story of author Adam Robarts' son, Haydn, who at 19 years-old faced his physical demise from a rare and aggressive brain cancer. "When we received the news of architect Adam Robarts visiting Philadelphia for a book signing regarding his son who died at 19, it resonated with us. We lost our son and employee Omid last year. Omid Mohadjeri was a talented graphic designer, Art Director and an IT consultant to us. He was also in love with sneakers and involved with their design and trade," said event sponsor, Roya Taheri-Mohadjeri of Taheri Architecture, Inc. "We decided to create an opportunity for Adam at the Center for Architecture and Design, to share his thoughts on what we can learn about life from death, with those who may have had a loss in family or just have an interest in the topic."
While the ordeal was awful, Robarts describes the journey alongside his son as nourishing, rewarding and even joyous. During the tour, Robarts will share some of the lessons learned from Haydn's approach to living and dying with a beautifully potent blend of personal stories, reflections, wisdom from diverse faith traditions, and essential learnings from science and religion. Ultimately, he seeks to begin a conversation that inspires an approach to living more fully by contemplating death.
During the Nineteen tour, Robarts will be joined by Irish singer-songwriter Luke Slott, who will enrich the conversation with some of his recent music dedicated to Haydn. Adam is the founder of Robarts Spaces, with offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen.
All book sales will be donated to children's cancer research.
