In September 2024, CBP Architects signed the AIA 2030 Commitment and its goal of carbon-neutral buildings by the year 2030. Described by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) as an actionable climate strategy that gives a set of standards and goals for reaching net zero emissions in the built environment, the AIA 2023 Commitment has been signed by over 1,350 architecture firms.
We just submitted a six-month sustainability action plan to AIA and are proud to publicly announce our AIA 2030 Commitment and steps taken in support of this pledge.
“We understand the need to exercise leadership in creating the built environment. We believe we must alter our practices and encourage the entire design and construction industry to join with us to change the course of the planet's future.”
– Robyn Savacool, AIA
CBP Architects is known for considering 'home' across all typologies. Whether designing single-family houses, market-rate multi-family developments, affordable housing complexes, or community buildings, we constantly ask, 'What does home mean to us and the occupants of our projects?' This fundamental question has a significant commonality – our planet. Everyone on our design team considers what is best for the long-term preservation of the health and wellness of our collective home.
Our sustainability action plan asserts that each project reaches its fullest potential in reducing embodied carbon and maximizing operational efficiency; sustainability will never be considered as an afterthought. Our design approach employs building performance standards and energy modeling, eliminates redundancies, and prioritizes reuse of existing structures. Construction phase prioritizes include material distance to site and waste salvage. Post-occupancy, we evaluate energy performance, material durability, air quality, and water usage to understand building life cycles, so that we can continually improve. Our action plan will be updated every three years.
