Congratulations to LO Design on winning an Honor Award for their Contextual House project.

In its essence, this project is a reimagining of the Philadelphia rowhouse typology. While the building itself appears to the casual on looker to be completely new, the designers reused much of the structural joists and foundation of the original home. Selective interventions to the existing resulted in the feel of a drastically new home.

On the exterior, the main brick facade pattern picks up on an angled brick trim course detail, unique to many of the homes on this historic row house block. This playful pattern is reimagined as a field across the entire facade, expressing a clear connection to the adjacent context.
