12 Nov 2025 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM
The Philadelphia Navy Yard, similar to other waterfront areas across the country, has undergone a significant transformation from a declining industrial district to a burgeoning high tech office park. A considerable number of businesses have located to the adaptively reused warehouses, while others have opted for entirely new construction.
This program provides attendees with a unique opportunity to explore the application of precast
concrete in real-life projects in Philadelphia’s Navy Yard. Throughout the tour, participants will visit a curated selection of completed projects where precast concrete has played a prominent role. These projects will demonstrate the diverse range of applications and design possibilities offered by precast concrete prefabrication techniques, from facades and cladding to structural elements.
Learning Objectives:
Explore the principles and benefits of prefabricated precast concrete in terms of durability, versatility, and aesthetics from the designers of (3) specific projects located in the Navy Yard. Learn how BIM modeling and sharing capabilities are utilized to create truly unique and expressive designs.
Identify applications and design considerations for architectural precast concrete, structural precast concrete, and all-precast concrete building systems, including facades, cladding and total precast structures. Design considerations such as efficiency, sound insulation, and occupant comfort will be highlighted.
Discuss how designers collaborate with precast manufacturers to incorporate PCI certification categories, industry standards, and best practices to meet project design intent and client requirements.
Learn how the precast industry and precast fabricators are incorporating environmental strategies on projects to deliver project longevity, building resiliency, and reduced life cycle costs.
