2:05 - 3:05 PM How Precast Builds: Resilient K-12 Schools Schools are much more than just buildings; they are interactive learning environments, gathering places, and safe havens for the community. Construction of schools can be impacted by a myriad of factors, including the evolving construction industry, recent code changes, increasing sustainability requirements, and a challenging economy. These factors are all increasing the demand for safe, healthy, high-performance educational facilities. In this presentation, attendees will learn how to design and build high-performance, sustainable, and resilient schools, with reduced life-cycle costs utilizing precast, prestressed concrete architectural and structural building solutions. A variety of case studies will be presented to highlight precast concrete’s high-performance attributes, including optimization of versatile, efficient, and resilient building applications. Presenter: Dawn Decker, PCI Mid-Atlantic Credits: Coming soon

4:15 - 5:15 PM Defining Human-Centric Lighting While light’s effect on humans has been studied for decades, only recent discoveries have found a direct link between light and human physiology. The exact workings of this intricate biological system are not fully known. Human-centric lighting, a concept that suggests carefully designed lighting can positively impact a person on a physiological level, has become a central focus. This session will provide insight into past and current research on human-centric lighting as well as lighting equipment that may support this human-focused approach to design. Research is in its infancy, conclusions and solutions continue to evolve on a monthly if not weekly basis. The information discussed in this session reflects conclusions drawn from current published studies on human-centric lighting. Presenters: Xingying Peng and Matt Fracassini, The Lighting Practice Credits: Coming soon
