This presentation will explore some of the enclosure-related challenges encountered while retrofitting and improving the thermal performance of existing masonry buildings. We will look at a variety of projects that represent different conditions encountered, and discuss the risks with modifying masonry assemblies with additional insulation. We will also discuss our process of masonry evaluation, analysis, and selection of an appropriate wall assembly to improve or maintain the performance of existing masonry buildings.
