Philadelphia’s Police Administration Building is a landmark structure on a large, valuable site. Before the City issues a Roundhouse RFP to developers, we should understand the building’s historic, environmental and design value as a critical precursor to determining its future. This February’s Design Dialogue is a collaboration of AIA Philadelphia’s Historic Preservation Committee, the Committee on the Environment, and the Design Committee. Panelists will discuss the Roundhouse from those three perspectives: What is the environmental impact of demolition vs reuse? Is it good design? In a city whose structures go back to the 1700s, why care about a building from 1962?
