This panel presentation will focus on lessons learned from the recent mass timber construction of Penn’s Amy Gutmann Hall and other higher education mass timber projects.  Panelists will represent perspectives from ownership, architecture, engineering, cost estimating, construction, and mass timber design assist. This course covers the benefits of mass timber from the programming and project planning stages through construction and evaluation of the finished building. 

Learning Objectives:

1. Review original mass timber assumptions from each of the perspectives and how those assumptions played out through the design and construction process. 
2. Discuss mass timber “bonuses” that weren’t originally considered but were found out during the construction process and any unexpected benefits revealed from the client and occupants’ perspective. 
3. Review lessons learned and approaches to incorporating those lessons into future projects. 
4. Highlight the pros and cons of mass timber from each of the perspectives and discuss where and how mass timber can be utilized in future higher education buildings and the benefits that wood brings.
