Please join the AIA Historic Preservation Committee and the Committee on the Environment for an engaging exploration of the Carbon Avoided Retrofit Estimator (CARE), a new software tool that allows users to compare the total carbon impacts of renovating an existing building vs. replacing it with new construction. The discussion will be led by Lori Ferriss, AIA, PE, LEED AP BD+C, a Design Research & Teaching Fellow at Northeastern University and one of the CARE Tool’s developers, who will give a hands-on demonstration of how CARE can be applied by preservation architects and other design practitioners. As adapting existing buildings is a critical strategy in pursuing a carbon neutral built environment, Lori will also speak about the importance of engaging preservation specialists as allies and collaborators in helping to achieve that goal.
