Climate Action and Leadership |
On Wednesday, September 12, AIA Philadelphia and ULI Philadelphia presented the second annual Urban Resilience Forum with new partners Green Building United and Preservation Alliance.
This year we had the one and only Glenn “Hurricane” Schwartz, Senior Consultant, AKRF present one of the keynotes, and Abby Sullivan, Chief Resilience Officer, City of Philadelphia Office of Sustainability presented the second.
When I stepped down as Chair of Urban Design Committee at AIA Philadelphia, my one regret was not having a chance to work on a second iteration of this event, so I was so thrilled to see it come back, stronger than ever. The gravitas that Glenn “Hurricane” Schwartz lends through his five decades of meteorological experience, the inspiring stories that Abby Sullivan shared about how Philadelphia is preparing for and mitigating against the worst climate disasters at our doorstep — urban heat island effect and flooding compounded by the intersectional issues of poverty and health — I came away inspired by the incredible work being done by smart, passionate people in my own community.
Much like Abby Sullivan said in her keynote, this second Urban Resilience Forum gave me hope to see so many people attend and care about these shared issues.
Bravo to AIA Philadelphia, ULI Philadelphia, Green Building United, and Preservation Alliance for putting on another successful Urban Resilience Forum. Your leadership is supporting our collective efforts towards building a resilient Philadelphia and beyond.
