Continuing Education: Pending
Date: 4th Tuesday of the Month (June - September)
ULI Philadelphia and AIA Philadelphia are pleased to offer a joint book club to read From the Ground Up / Local Efforts to Create Resilient Cities, by Alison Sant. Island Press describes: “For decades, American cities have experimented with ways to remake themselves in response to climate change. These efforts, often driven by grassroots activism, offer valuable lessons for transforming the places we live. In From the Ground Up: Local Efforts to Create Resilient Cities, design expert Alison Sant focuses on the unique ways in which US cities are working to mitigate and adapt to climate change while creating equitable and livable communities. She shows how, from the ground up, we are raising the bar to make cities places in which we don’t just survive, but where all people have the opportunity to thrive.”
The Book Club will meet June, July, August, and September, reading 3 chapters per month. We will request volunteers to summarize a case study that they found particularly interesting from each of the chapters (one volunteer per chapter), and then we will have discussion afterwards. If there are folks who would like to jump on this early, please email me at [email protected] to sign up for our June chapters. The meetings will generally be hybrid with both in-person and virtual options. In-person meeting location will likely be in Center City.
In October, ULI Philadelphia and AIA Philadelphia will host a joint Urban Resilience Symposium with a panel featuring From the Ground Up’s chapter on Philadelphia. Alison Sant will be joining us along with some key players from this chapter.
