There have been two recent, important developments in the world of accessibility requirements that are noteworthy for housing: ICC A117.1 has been updated and includes significant dimensional changes to long-standing requirements, and the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) formally incorporated ICC A117.1-2009 and IBC 2009, -12, -15, and -18 as additional Fair Housing Act "safe harbors."
This session will be presented by Lisa Pilorz Assoc. AIA, an Associate Principal at KMA, a nationally known firm that specializes in universal design and accessibility planning. She works primarily with government and private agencies to assess, develop, and implement strategies to ensure facilities are accessible. Lisa consults nationwide on large-scale multifamily housing projects, where she works with developers, and construction and architecture firms throughout the various planning and construction phases of their projects. In addition to consulting on active projects, she provides training to multifamily housing clients on the Fair Housing Act, Americans with Disabilities Act and local building codes.
