Job Description
Duties:
The Director of Wharton Capital and Small Projects is responsible for capital projects and planning, space planning, and small project management for the Wharton complex. The Director is also responsible for managing projects related to significant leased assets in Philadelphia with additional major leased facilities in San Francisco and Beijing, China. Supervising one direct report, collaborating with stakeholders throughout the school and FRES, plus managing third-party vendors and their employees, this role manages complex and varied relationships and partnerships. In conjunction with the Senior Director of Operations, the role is also responsible for the school's Capital budget, which can vary greatly depending upon the school and university's strategic plans.
The Director will ensure that all projects, large and small, remain on time as well as on budget. They will carefully track and plan projects with FRES' Design & Construction team, Small Projects team, and O & M teams. All projects will overlap at some point with the Facilities team and Building Managers. This role will be responsible for ensuring all project-related activities are well coordinated and run smoothly.
This role is also responsible for overseeing the inventory of our stored furniture and artwork. The role will also keep track of and improve upon our sustainability efforts throughout our teams and facilities.
Qualifications
• BA/BS required, Master's degree preferred. Education related to Architecture, Construction Management, Design, or related field required plus 7-10 years of experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• Experience leading capital projects required.
• Demonstrated project management and organization skills with the ability to think high-level and execute on the details. Proven ability to exercise good judgment, take initiative, and make independent decisions. Strong planning and organizational capabilities along with problem solving skills are required.
• Strong management & leadership skills required. Experience in building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, leading teams, and developing organization-wide strategies.
• Ability to work with and communicate effectively at all levels within the organization from senior management to technicians.
• Ability to move multiple projects forward at the same time while remaining on point with the school's mission
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and resolve issues/emergencies.
• Available during non-traditional work hours including evenings/nights and weekends. Willing to travel.
