Architecture + Design Education Intern

The Center for Architecture and Design is a nonprofit organization whose mission it is to engage and educate the public about architecture and design.  One of its primary programs is the K-12 Architecture and Design Education (“ADE”) program. The ADE program is committed to exponentially expand access to quality design education in Philadelphia. Diversity in the design and construction industry is woefully inadequate and unrepresentative of People of color. Our goal is to make more students aware of the career opportunities in design with a particular focus on students from Black and Latinx communities.

This is a perfect position for an undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in a design or related program, with a passion and interest in connecting with the next generation of designers. You will possess strong writing and editing skills, are detail-oriented and organized, can meet deadlines, and are as comfortable working independently as you are working on a small team. We are looking for highly motivated candidates that share ADE values and collaborative spirit to work on a variety of projects. Our paid summer internship is a unique opportunity for career advancement in design, educational administration and programming, and teaching.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in the development of summer workshop curriculum and programming.
  • Assist in teaching the summer workshops and programming.
  • Engage with design industry professionals and school teachers
  • Assist in data entry and analysis of evaluation surveys.
  • Assist in the management and administration of all of the educational programming, including but not limited to: organizing our volunteer lists; our school teacher lists; assist in creating online calendar and project management tools; and coordinating content for marketing and communications purposes.

Skills required

  • Extremely organized and strong project management skills.  Candidate must have the ability to make chronological to-do lists and stay on deadline to complete all necessary tasks.
  • Be comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative, and interdisciplinary environment.
  • Experience with MS Office, MS Teams especially; and 3D and 2D software.
  • Clearly articulate design concepts, processes, and solutions via verbal and written communications
  • Possess design innovation and creativity

To apply please send cover letter expressing why you want to assist the ADE program and current resume/CV to Liza Niles at [email protected].  This is a paid internship position with up to 20 hours/week available.
