W.S. Cumby and Costanza Builders Partner on Joint Venture for Lakeside Graduate Housing at Princeton University

17 August 2012 | Affiliate News

W.S. Cumby and joint venture partner, Costanza Builders have begun the construction phase of Princeton University’s new, 830-bed, Lakeside Graduate Housing Development in Princeton, NJ. The start of construction marks the culmination of over one year of collaboration between Princeton University, American Campus Communities, Studio Ma Architects and the Costanza/Cumby Joint Venture.

The 382,000-square-foot project is pursuing certification under the LEED for Homes Rating System and consists of 74, two-story townhomes in ten buildings, 255 apartment units in four mid-rise buildings, and a 4.5 level parking garage. The new development will be constructed on the 9-acre site currently occupied by the Hibben and Magie graduate housing complex which is slated for demolition. The fifteen new buildings were carefully sited on the property to minimize disturbance of the existing woodlands and to vastly improve the management of stormwater on the sensitive property which bounds Princeton’s Lake Carnagie.

All of the residential buildings will be heated and cooled by a new, centrally-located, 200-well, ground source heat pump system and will be clad in a combination of brick masonry and synthetic slate tiles manufactured from natural clay.
