Wohlsen Plans Topping Off Ceremony for Christ’s Home Retirement Community

05 October 2012 | Affiliate News

Wohlsen Construction Company, headquartered in Lancaster, Pa., and Christ’s Home Retirement Community, located in Warminster, Pa. will celebrate the topping off of Shepherd’s Crossing Continuing Care Retirement Community on Tuesday, October 9, 2012.

Work on the second phase of the retirement community, which includes independent living apartments, assisted living, memory support, and skilled nursing units as well as cottages, is scheduled for completion in October 2013. The project was designed by Lenhardt Rodgers Architects located in Fort Washington, Pa.

The topping off ceremony is said to have originated in 621 B.C. when builders celebrated the completion of a bridge over the Tiber River, according to Gary Langmuir, president of Wohlsen Construction.

In the early 1900s workers in the United States began hoisting an evergreen tree, along with the American flag, to the highest piece of steel in a high rise, Langmuir said.

The celebration at Christ’s Home Retirement Community will offer the attendees the opportunity to sign the truss before it is hoisted into place.
