Urban Engineers Garners Award for the Curtis Institute of Music
The Philadelphia Chapter of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers awarded Urban Engineers, Inc. the 2011 "Notable Achievement in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering" award for the Curtis Institute of Music's Lenfest Hall.
The award recognizes Urban's building system design, which addressed the historic preservation, security, spatial, sustainable and critical acoustical requirements of the Curtis Institute's new, nine-story, 107,000-SF music education and residence building, designed to achieve LEED® Gold certification. The building system design is highlighted by a 100% Outside Air Energy Recovery Ventilation Unit that tracks the location of occupants using sensors to provide high levels of efficiency, comfort and indoor air quality.
Designed by Venturi, Scott Brown and Associates, Lenfest Hall doubles the size of the Curtis campus, provides relief of scheduling pressures on Curtis’ existing, historic buildings and provides Curtis with a designated space to accommodate student residences and dining facilities for the first time in its history.
