UJMN’s Renovation of Weavers Way Mt. Airy Opens to Rave Reviews
Highly anticipated by Weavers Way’s members, the freshly renovated Mt. Airy store re-opened September 9 to overwhelmingly positive reviews. UJMN Architects + Designers worked closely with the client, a local pioneer in the national food cooperative movement, to preserve the essence of the beloved neighborhood anchor and retain many features held dear by customers. The renovation features exposed brick, custom millwork, stainless steel countertops, and original schoolhouse light fixtures dating back to the 1920s when the building housed a pharmacy. New energy-efficient refrigeration, LED lighting, enhanced daylighting and easy to maintain floors with high recycled content are among the store’s sustainable features. The first significant renovation of the original store also vastly improved customer circulation and accessibility through a new entrance, new shelving and removal of an interior enclosure. Next time you are in the neighborhood, come take a look. Non-members welcome!
