The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO) recently announced the selection of Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects/Davis Brody Bond joint venture to design the New Embassy Compound (NEC) in Mexico City, Mexico. Langan Engineering & Environmental Services is providing the team with civil and geotechnical engineering services from the firm's Arlington, VA location.

The team was selected from a shortlist of six architecture/engineering (A/E) teams that advanced to the final round of presentations and interviews.

The Mexico City project is the first solicited under OBO’s Design Excellence program and will demonstrate the value of an integrated design that balances aesthetics, cost, constructability, and reliability. This holistic approach to project development and delivery seeks to utilize the best methods, technologies, and staff abilities to produce facilities that are outstanding in all respects.

The design phase is anticipated to take 20 months and will begin upon award of the design contract. Construction award is scheduled for Fiscal Year 2015.
