Congratulations to the Design Award Winners
AIA Philadelphia celebrated the best in design by its member firms at Loews Philadelphia Hotel Wednesday, October 10, 2012, with the 2012 Awards for Design Excellence. Presented in Gold, Honor, and Merit categories for completed and unbuilt projects, as well as for architectural details, the awards are given for projects in the Philadelphia area and around the world. Hundreds of projects were submitted for consideration by AIA Philadelphia’s member firms, and many others are on view in an exhibition in the rotunda at the Shops at Liberty Place in Center City Philadelphia on view through October 21, 2012.
In addition to the Design Awards, AIA Philadelphia presented the Young Architect Award to Danielle DiLeo Kim, AIA, Director of Special Projects for the Philadelphia City Planning Commission and Jules Dingle, AIA, a principal at DIGSAU. The John Harbeson Award for lifetime achievement was presented to Hyman Myers, FAIA, and Austin + Mergold received the Philadelphia Emerging Architecture Prize.
AIA Philadelphia also honored Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter for his receipt of the Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Award for Leadership in Urban Design. The mayor received the national award from the American Architectural Foundation and the United States Conference of Mayors in recognition of his leadership in "transforming Philadelphia into a city focused on smart design and sustainability."
