Commas and capitalization! Proposal content that gets your firm shortlisted! Messages that fit the medium and audience!
All this and more in a fast-paced, three-part, 90-minute program that will change the way you think about the written word and empower you to immediately create more effective marketing, BD and promotional communications.
Part 1: Text Mechanics (Dorothy Verdon)
This is really a back to basics grammar lesson that will be fun, informative and relate to the type of writing we do in our profession. Covered will be punctuation, capitalization, proper word usage and terminology standardization. There will be several fun exercises plus examples of poor writing transformed.
Part 2: Proposals and Boilerplate (Liz Zipf)
This topic will cover how to write effectively in response to an RFP, tackling in particular cover letters, executive summaries, project understanding, and especially the project approach. Because boilerplate is so closely aligned with quals and proposals, project sheets and resumes will also be addressed.
Part 3: External Communications (Rosemarie Fabien)
Quite simply, this is about writing for the outside world, with no direct connection to business development activities, but with the intent to support the company’s strategic plan with effective messaging and placement. This topic will focus on how to craft a written piece once a topic has been identified and include tips on research and interviewing techniques. It will also address how to write an effective story pitch, press release, or feature article, as well as factors such as tone and voice, and how those can vary based on media type and outlet.
