2011 Awards for Design Excellence
AIA Philadelphia celebrated the best in design by its member firms at Loews Philadelphia Hotel Thursday, October 6, 2011, with the 2011 Awards for Design Excellence. Presented in Gold, Silver, Honor, and Merit categories for completed and unbuilt projects, as well as architectural detail, the awards are given for projects in the Philadelphia area and around the world.
Hundreds of projects were submitted for consideration by AIA Philadelphia’s member firms, and many others will be placed on view in an exhibition in the rotunda at the Shops at Liberty Place in Center City Philadelphia on view through October 10-23, 2011.
In addition to the Design Awards, AIA Philadelphia presented the Young Architect Award to Michael Kelly, AIA, LEED AP, of KCBA Architects and the John Harbeson Award to Richard W. Bartholomew, FAIA, AICP, PP, a principal at Wallace Roberts & Todd.
The jury for this year's awards comprised architects from southern California, including Buzz Yudell, FAIA, of Moore Rubel Yudell Architects + Planners, Santa Monica; Julie Eizenberg, AIA, of Koning Eizenberg, Santa Monica; Lawrence Scarpa, FAIA, of Brooks + Scarpa Architects, Los Angeles; Nick Seierup, FAIA, of Perkins + Will, Los Angeles; and Linda Pollari, RA, of Otis College of Art & Design, Los Angeles.
